£25,000 – £28,551 – (plus £1,500 South Eastern Allowance). Police Detectives can expect to be earning a salary of £46,044 (plus £1,500 South Eastern Allowance) starting your seventh year in the role.

As an Intelligence Development Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Serious and Organised Crime Unit, helping to develop and disseminate intelligence that will inform and enable impactful policing operations.

What you’ll do:

As an Intelligence Development Officer, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and disseminating intelligence in alignment with our Force Control Strategy priorities. Your work will involve producing high-quality reports, conducting interviews, and preparing and delivering briefings to inform police operations. You will also conduct firearms risk assessments, identify recruitment opportunities for covert human intelligence sources (CHIS), and ensure the integrity of investigations and court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Intelligence research, development, and dissemination.
  • Producing reports, briefings, and legal authority applications.
  • Conducting interviews with CHIS, suspects, victims, and witnesses.
  • Preparing and delivering operational briefings to officers and senior members.
  • Performing firearms risk assessments and maintaining investigation integrity.

What you’ll need:

We are seeking self-motivated individuals who can work both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and have the ability to engage effectively at all levels. Excellent problem-solving abilities, along with a sound understanding of the National Intelligence Model, are essential.

Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and crime and intelligence databases, are also required. You must be able to work under pressure with experience with meeting deadlines.

There is no requirement to work shifts, although some flexibility to vary hours for operational needs is desirable

Essential requirements:

  • Full driving licence with business insurance if using a private vehicle.
  • Willingness to undergo regular training and comply with health and safety requirements.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience in investigation and intelligence development.
  • Will ideally have worked in a project led environment.
  • Knowledge of overt and covert police tactics.
  • Ability to carry out risk assessments and understand disclosure and rules of evidence.
